The European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will be enforced beginning May 25, 2018, and will require data controllers and data processors to obtain consent from persons who provide their personal data for use in the delivery of services. While several differing legal opinions have been written regarding the potential application of GDPR to WHOIS data, they all seem to agree that WHOIS data, in its current form will NOT comply with the data protection requirements of the GDPR and therefore will not be publicly available as it is today.
