The Second Annual MarkMonitor New York Summit

The Second Annual MarkMonitor Summit was held in New York City on April 12th.  MarkMonitor® brought together leading experts from a broad variety of industries and government agencies to share best practices and enforcement strategies for brand protection, domain management, and digital piracy.  The Summit was also an excellent opportunity to interact with individual Client Service Managers (CSMs) from both the Domain Management and Brand Protection departments.

The event kicked off with an opening keynote from Phillippa Scarlett, United States Deputy Intellectual Property Enforcement Coordinator (IPEC) in the Executive Office of the President.  Ms. Scarlett discussed the role of IPEC in protecting the intellectual property rights of American companies and how they are creating policies that address global brand protection issues.

Speakers from the NBA (National Basketball Association) and NFL (National Football League), shared struggles and triumphs they have experienced in cracking down on counterfeiters and digital piracy.  These sentiments were echoed by industry leaders in clothing manufacturing.  This included the presentation of an award to the port authority officer who led the effort to confiscate $2million in counterfeit goods from one shipment.

Representatives from Verizon and the United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team, a division of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security shared ways to safeguard your brand and customers against the threat of malware and phishing.

The afternoon featured interactive breakout sessions and customer panels.  During these sessions, various issues regarding brand protection, domain management, and digital piracy were discussed:

  • New gTLD Perspectives
  • The Deep Web and the DarkNet
  • Successful Strategies to Address Online Video Streaming Piracy
