Fadi Chehadé Announces His Departure – What’s Next for Businesses at ICANN?
Last week, the CEO of ICANN, Fadi Chehadé, announced his intention to leave his position in March 2016, after almost four years as head of the organization.  He plans to take a position in private industry, outside of the domain name space.  Although the impact to the business community is unclear at this point, Chehadé’s departure throws a spotlight on how important ICANN leadership can be in ensuring that business and brand interests maintain their voice in the Internet governance sphere. We released our latest Shopping Report this week, examining consumer purchase intent and the demographics of those who acquire counterfeit goods online. The report focuses on a category that is heavily targeted by counterfeiters—apparel and luxury goods—and surveys almost nine million shopping sessions during a nine month period, focusing on the search terms employed by shoppers in order to understand what they were looking to purchase. We classified terms like “cheap,” “discount” or “outlet” as bargain-hunting terms and terms like “counterfeit,” “fake” or “replica” as fake-seeking terms.
